Measurement of the brightness of light. Luminance is described as Candelas per square meter (cd/m^2)

Candela is the luminous intensity equal to 1/60 of the luminous intensity per square centimeter of a blackbody radiating at the temperature of solidification of platinum (2,046°K). This also where the term candle power came from.
