Instructions for MeasureWatch

These instructions describe everything you need to know about setting up MeasureWatch to test the accuracy of your measurement instrument and verify its performance over time. These instructions speak specifically about using the COLORef reference target, measured with an i1Pro device. Other instruments will be similar. Following these instructions, you can set up this process very easily.

Note that setup involves two distinct steps:

FIRST.... You need to create an account in Maxwell (our online color repository), create a device & track, and email that to us, so we can place the COLORef factory reference file into your Maxwell account. We will email you when your reference data is in place.

SECOND.... Once the reference data is in place, you can proceed with the rest of the setup where you open up the ColorShuttle program on your computer and link it to your Maxwell track. This will allow you to start taking your measurements.

Here is a basic overview of the process:
- Create a Maxwell account.
- Create a Device and Track in the online Maxwell account,
- Download and install the ColorShuttle program,
- Setup a hotfolder and target info in ColorShuttle,
- "Bond" ColorShuttle to your Maxwell account,
- Measure your COLORef target.

Username and password

ColorShuttle settings detail

Click on the "ColorShuttle" icon in the upper left corner of ColorShuttle to enter the ColorShuttle details pane. Click "Open Target Folder".

Put the targets in place

Click the "Measure" button.
To make it easier, you can preset your preferred measurement instrument (i1Pro) and default target in this field as well. Since you just installed the CRM_i1Pro_ref file, it will show up in the default target list.

Follow the prompts for calibrating, measuring, etc.

Measuring the COLORef target

To measure the COLORef target using an i1Pro:

- Line up the measuring ruler to run through the middle of all the patches,
- Place the i1 in the ruler in the white space between the black bar and the first cyan patch,
- Click and hold the measurement button and slide the i1 in the ruler across all the patches, ending in the white space after the last white patch. Release the button.
With a little practice this method works very well.

If you still have trouble getting this to work, tape a piece of white paper over the black bar so that the i1 can read white in that space, and try again.

Measurement - done

Once the target is measured successfully, click the Save button (or you can simply click the i1Pro measurement button again to initiate save.)

Uploading

The measurement will be automatically uploaded to Maxwell. A list of measurements will populate the Hot Folder History window.

Pass/Fail

If the "Calculate Pass/Fail" checkbox has been checked, ColorShuttle will calculate whether the measurements pass the conditions set in the Metrics in Maxwell. If label printing has been setup, a label will be generated which summarizes the pass / fail condition.

For more information on Pass / Fail and label printing, see the ColorWiki:

More details can be found on the Maxwell website

[] Any time you wish to verify your instrument, open up ColorShuttle, click on the Hotfolder, and click the Measure button.
[] Measure the target as before. The result will be displayed in ColorShuttle, and the measurement file will be uploaded into Maxwell.
[] ColorShuttle also has convenient links to instantly see the trend report, or view the track information in Maxwell.</p>

By default, COLORef reference files are installed using rather wide tolerances. If you wish to adjust these tolerances or add / remove metrics see the Metrics page in the ColorWiki:

Talk to your Maxwell sales representative about other features of Maxwell such as automatic email notification when a device falls out of tolerance, and much more.
