How do I find out how far out of gamut my image (or color list) is from my output profile?
I need to have quantifiable data, such as delta E differences.
The problem
You need to know how far one color is from another color. More specifically, how far a color is from the gamut boundary of a printer profile with which you intend to print the color.
This procedure can be done with either a picture, a portion of a picture, sampled colors from an image, or a color list you make up yourself.
The solution
- Bring your image or color list into ColorThink Pro. (It opens automatically in the Worksheet.)
- Choose the eye dropper and select the colors in the image you wish to sample. A color list is automatically populated below in the "Colors" section.
- Click and drag your printer profile onto the image in the Worksheet. This reflects what will happen to the colors of your image when it gets printed.
- Click on the "<untitled list>" drop down box and you can choose to save out your list (optional) or choose "Graph List."
- Click on the dE button to see a visual representation of the delta E differences in the image.
